OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) refers to the operation whereby requested report data is uncovered and displayed in a format that is easy to read and understand. This process allows for the dimensional exploration of data, i.e. analyzing your company's sales by demographic region. One of our favorite tools, – Mondrian, happens to be the the leading open source OLAP engine. Both Pentaho Analysis and JasperAnalysis are based on Mondrian (both of which we are quite familiar with), and each of these analytics tools have interfaces that allow the user to manipulate the view of the data.
